There were more celebrations at our march meeting when Bro John Nicholson was presented with his 50 years in masonry certificate by W Bro Ian Clouston PAGStdB, representing the Provincial Grand Master Kevin Stannard.
Bro John spent 23 years working for Montague Burton in retail management, apart from his National service with the RAMC in Cyprus, which he considered to be like heaven after his upbringing in a mining community, during and after the war years. When Burtons closed he joined Hexham Community centre and worked there until a stroke forced his retirement.
As a member of Hexham stage society he met members of Hexham Priory Lodge and in 1973 duly became a member and joined chapter and mark lodge a year later.
John says “the lessons in life he has learned from masonry have guided him through life and is so grateful to the Brothers who first introduced him to it and also the wonderful support he has received from his wife Audrey.
